Updated for AltExpo#5, March, 2010
We are grateful to have many different people offer to help organize the AltExpo event in their own way. Those volunteers will be set up on this website as a "coordinator" with special privileges that won't be available to the public - they'll be able to view some things that the public won't see. We are improving our method of operation this year by allowing different people to "uderwrite" different aspects of the AltExpo.
Underwriters of one aspect of an AltExpo event are taking full responsibility for the costs and the outcome of that aspect of the event. There are underwriters for the following areas
- rooms/housing
- beverage service
- food service
- internet cafe service
- souvenir service
- marketplace service
Each of those underwriters can come out at the end of the event with a surplus or a revenue shortfall, so they better do a bang-up job!
Additional benefits to coordinators: Any co-ordinatorat the AltExpo will get his own AltExpo.org email address for follow-up contacts. We will set this email address to forward to your preferred email address. All coordinators get a blog on the AltExpo.org site. Just click on "my blog" in the left sidebar menu and make your entries there. To read someone else's blog, click on their username wherever you see it and it will take you to their user info, then click on their blog entries. All coordinators get access to forums discussing AltExpo organizational issues.
All underwriters get their own webpage on the AltExpo.org site that they can edit themselves. An underwriter's site can contain pictures, videos, links, an essay - whatever they want to put there. It will be created by them. Contact Steve@AltExpo.org if you have any questions on how to edit your page. Please refer to our helpful page of instructions for coordinators first. This should be helpful and hopefully will answer all your questions before you have to turn to our IT staff.
Additional information: We have plenty of crash in our hotel space at Liberty Forum events. Students can also earn hotel crash space by helping us as volunteers with things like handing out flyers, etc. or selling beverages or books at our services tables, printing flyers at the computer stations or otherwise running errands, etc.
Your specific information: We will send you specific info with your email and site information. It will look like this: Your email address is *firstname*@AltExpo.org & mail sent to you there will be forwarded to *your preferred email address* Your webpage is: http://altexpo.org/*yoursite* - the page is set up with *username* as the author. The content on the page at the beginning is just dummy text put there by the staff. You can re-create the whole page from scratch. You have to be a registered user of the site to edit the page. It will be set up with you as the author of the page, so it should show up to you with an edit tab at the top of the page when you are logged on. To everyone else it will appear without the edit tab. Just keep it clean and don't advocate anything illegal on your page! Make it upbeat, fun and helpful Thank you for offering to help coordinate the Alternatives Expo.
